2008 World Economic Forum Report cites ARP developed Business Councils

In its 2008 report entitled, Business Coalitions Tackling AIDS, the World Economic Forum's Global Health Initiative has cited national business coalitions developed by ARP as effective platforms for the private sector response to the epidemic. According to Richard Samans, World Economic Forum Managing Director, "The goal of the Global Health Initiative is to facilitate and stimulate greater business engagement in health systems and in the fight against HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria".

SURVEY: With Serious HIV/AIDS Epidemic in Tijuana, Survey Finds Few Businesses with HIV/AIDS Policies

A survey of 62 local businesses in Tijuana found that only 8% had workplace policies prohibiting discrimination on the basis of HIV/AIDS, one-quarter would eliminate job candidates if they had HIV and more than 1 in 10 would fire HIV positive employees. The results coincide with five complaints received this year by the Office of Human Rights (PDH) within the state of Baja California in Mexico about workplace discrimination against people living with HIV. Given the recent cases of HIV in Tijuana and the reports to the human rights commission, the results of this survey are extremely timely.

Los Angeles, CA - AIDS Responsibility Project (ARP) will launch its "Start the Conversation" initiative with a concert to celebrate ARP Productions' release of a 12-track CD entitled What Are We Living For, with songs written and performed by an array of talented young artists whose performances target the hip hop and youth culture. The concert will take place at Toronto's newest and most vibrant club, Purgatory, from 9-11pm on Tuesday, August 15, 2006.

The new year began with another expansion of the ARP-Futures Group program on fighting HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination in the workplace in the Latin America/Caribbean region. As part of a partnership with USAID, the Presidents Emergency Plan and Merck, Sharpe & Dohme, the AIDS Responsibility Project and The Futures Group launched their efforts to support and bolster leadership by the Jamaican business community to create a national business council on HIV/AIDS.
